John Paolo R. Rivera

John Paolo R. Rivera is the Associate Director of the Asian Institute of Management’s (AIM) Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism. He is tasked to lead the Center’s efforts in research and development, events, and training. He is also the Managing Editor of the Asia Pacific Business & Economics Perspectives housed at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Beppu, Japan.

Before joining AIM’s ALT-Center of Tourism, he served as an Assistant Operations Manager at Veritas Financial Partners. He supervised the Portfolio Management, Marketing, Human Resources, and Office Administration clusters of the company. Under his management, the company was able to increase efficiency and productivity by establishing time-saving work processes in performing daily tasks. 

He recently served as a Consultant at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia. He was involved in the project Explicating Jakarta Framework of Moving ASEAN Economic Community Beyond 2015. He was also involved in projects related to poverty, labor migration, international trade, and macroeconomic growth spearheaded by the ASEAN Secretariat, Asian Development Bank, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade, East Asian Development Network, and World Bank. He also served as a Research Associate at the Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies and Managing Editor of the DLSU Business & Economics Review. 

He has published in various international abstracted, indexed, double-blind, peer-reviewed journals such as the Asia Pacific Social Science Review, Journal of Customs and Trade, Journal of Economic Education and Economic Research, Journal of International Business Research, MALAY Journal, and Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies.  His other publications include book chapters, policy briefs, industry notes, and case studies.   

Prior to his industry engagements, he served as an Associate Professor at the School of Economics of De La Salle University. He taught Mathematical Economics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Economic Development, International Economics, and Economic Research. He consistently achieved an Outstanding teaching evaluation both at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. 

He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, Master of Science in Economics, and Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics (Magna cum Laude) from De La Salle University. His specialization includes Econometrics, Macroeconomics, International Trade, and Economic Development.
