ALT-CFT Case Study:
THE ECO ACADEMY (BROOKE'S POINT, PALAWAN): MANAGING CHANGE AND TRANSITION
GOLAMCO, Angelica

The Eco Academy, located at the Sabsaban Falls in Brookes Point, Palawan, was hastily set up by the Bantay Kalikasan, an organization under the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI). The case is about a community-managed livelihood through ecotourism and the resolve to put a stop to mining operations, Philip Arzaga, the Area Manager at Brookes Point mobilized the community to set up a cooperative. He saw the opportunity in creating a sense of ownership through community-managed livelihood projects with the support of AFI. AFI will soon turn over Eco Academy to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Brookes Point which has jurisdiction over the Sabsaban Falls. With the initial investments of AFI and the support of the LGU, Philip and the Palawanon community have renewed hopes for safeguarding and promoting their environment and improving their living conditions with a better arrangement.
